I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Next Wednesday night, I am teaching one of our ladies' Bible classes about Lydia and hospitality. I have had some great personal studies getting ready to teach this class, and I feel I have been blessed as well as challenged!!!! However, I want to make this study one that challenges those in the class to be more hospitable to ALL kinds of people (guests, sick, strangers, etc) as well as show them how "easy" it can be. So, what do I need from you? Please do one or more of the following for me:
1. Tell of a time when someone's hospitality helped you in your life.
2. Share a recipe (or 2 or 3) that is a crowd pleaser (and relatively easy).
3. Give any ideas, comments, etc. you have on how hospitality has worked for you.
Please write a post on your blog and link it to mine. Then, leave a comment with me so I know to go and find you!!! Encourage your readers to do the same thing. If they do this, have them leave a comment with your name, so I know who sent them to me!!! On Sunday, February 20, 2010, I will announce a winner based on how many people you sent my way (1 entry per person) and ideas you sent my way (1 entry per idea/recipe/story etc). Thanks so much for helping me out!! After class on Wednesday, I will share my lesson with you on the blog!!!! Thanks!

Going to try to do this, Becky. Good idea. Next Wednesday? Like, not tomorrow, right?
Yes, NEXT Wednesday!
I just put a post on my blog about the people here and how hospitable they have been. Check it out and see if it works or if you need something else I can do that. I didn't actually use the word 'hospitable' but you get the idea! This is a great idea by the way!
I occasionally take my office nurses coffee from Green Frog as a treat. Plus I occasionally take them sausage balls for breakfast. It's nice to have a chance to start the day with breakfast and conversation.
So sausage balls:
16 oz fine shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 package of sausage
~1 cup of Bisquick (I never really measure, but rather just pour till it looks right to me, if too much bisquick then I add a little water until it mixes well).
Roll in small balls, bake on 350 until golden brown.
Another great quick recipe is chicken casserole
Large can of chicken
8 oz sour cream
1 can of cream of chicken soup
Mix all together well. Can add poppy seeds if wanted. Top with crumbled Ritz crackers and bake 350 until golden brown. Serve over rice.
Another great quick chicken casserole is
boil 3-4 chicken breasts, cut into bite size pieces
boil one bag of egg noodles
2 cans of cream of chicken (or cream of celery or mushroom)
1 can of campbell's nacho cheese soup
MIx all together. Cover with crushed crackers. Bake 350 until golden brown.
I lay out extra blankets and pillows for guests.
My mom always made our home open to all. It was never just my mom, dad, sister and I at the dinner table. There was always an extra friend or two there.
Perfect, Melissa - thanks so much!!!!
A recipe that someone used when bringing us dinner after Jaycee was born...very easy and Yummy
Chicken Pot pie
Ingredients:
2 (9 inch) deep dish frozen pie crusts, thawed
1 (15 ounce) can mixed vegetables, drained
2 cups cooked, diced chicken breast
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a bowl combine the mixed vegetables, chicken, cream of chicken soup and milk. Pour mixture into one of the pie crusts. Turn the other crust over and pop out of the tin onto the top of the filled pie. Seal the edges and poke holes in top crust.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
A favorite dessert and it makes TWO!!

1/4 cup chopped pecans
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (16 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
2 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crusts
1 (12 ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping
Directions
In a skillet, melt butter; add coconut and pecans. Cook and stir over medium heat for 10 minutes or until golden brown and toasted; set aside.
In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and milk until smooth. Fold in whipped topping. Pour into crusts. Drizzle with caramel topping; sprinkle with coconut mixture. Cover and freeze for 8 hours or overnight or until firm. Remove from the freezer 5 minutes before slicing.
When we moved to Murray we were showered with hospitality. We were so overwhelmed with the kindness people showed us. I didn't cook for over 3 weeks because so many people brought us food, gift cards, and had us over for dinner. New people to the community are the perfect opportunity to show God's love through hospitality. It really made us feel welcome and helped in the craziness of the move so much. Having 3 children, one of which was only 5 months old, I had my hands full and it was a HUGE burden lifted to have so much love shown to us!
I love this idea for your class...wish I could be there to sit in. I know you will do an AWESOME job!
by the way in that Chicken Pot Pie recipe to make it even easier, I use canned chicken (1 large one is normally a good amount of chicken)
What a great idea! When I think of hospitality, immediately, the family we lived with for 4 months after moving to MS pops into my mind. They opened their home to our family and made us feel like it was the biggest blessing to them that we were staying there. I was blessed and challenged by them, and hope to live that type of hospitality.
I try to keep in the cabinet and freezer ingredients for meals I can throw together on short notice.
Blessings to you, Becky~
