In one of my new devotional books for the year, a missionary in China mentioned how when she was learning the language she learned the Chinese expression
ling xiu stood for a Christian's daily devotional time. In Chinese (Mandarin, I believe)
ling stands for "spirit" or "soul," while
xiu means "repair." How appropriate that the expression literally means "spirit repair." That is exactly what our DAILY time with God is - a time to repair our worn out and weary soul. Just as our washing machines and lawn mowers need repair because of use over time, our spirit needs repair DAILY - why? Because of all the struggles we go through each day - emotional, physical, financial - we need repair. Because of the warfare we put up against the devil and his evil schemes - we need repair. We need repair not just every 3,000 miles. We need repair for our soul daily so we can take what comes at us head on and strong!
. . . that He would grant you,
according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might through His Spirit
in the inner man,
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. . . .
Ephesians 3:16-17a (NKJV)
I don't know about you, but a priority for mine of 2011 is to have daily time to repair my soul - heavens knows I need it!
Amen sister! I am recommiting to daily study and prayer time and listening to God. Of course we will have to really slow down a little to listen, but blessings to us both as we enjoy and learn in this journey!
